This is one of those best selling novels about vampires for young adults. Think its in the same vein as Twilight.
The author is Richelle Mead. The books are super popular. The movie is probably going to be a big hit.
I don't know much about the plot other than the fact that the guy behind Heathers, the awesome movie from the 1980's staring Christian Slater and Wynona Ryder, is involved. So it is probably going to be good.
The movie has a young cast, but it also has some heavyweight actors. Gabriel Bryne, Claire Foy and Olga Kurlenko are involved. The trailer has a lot of British actors in it. I always find that English actors work well in Vampire movies and Horror movies in general. One of the best horror movies, or at least vampire movies, of recent years was Byzantium. That started Saoirse Ronan and Gemma Atterton. It was set on the English seaside and was excellent.
Getting back to Vampire Academy:
From the brief plot synopsis it looks like its similar to the Harry Potter franchise and has some of that franchisees potential to be a big hit and spawn squeals. The novels have already been a smash success.
They are probably going to have to make it friendly like the Potter movies, but either way Olga looks like she would make a fantastic Vampire.
Some of the critics have made comparison to Twilight, which is loved in the movie industry, but among horror fans is not a big hit. I don't think it was made to be frightening. Another movie that got a bad rap was Beautiful Creatures. That one I thought was pretty good. It helped that it had an excellent cast: Jeremy Irons, Emmy Rossum, and Emma Thompson.
I can't decide on Vampire Academy yet. It looks good, but the trailer is pretty fast paced.
Here is the official trailer for Vampire Academy in case you were looking for it.
The trailer for the movie looks pretty good.
